FAQ

FAQ frequently asked questions
  • 1. How do I know what size urn I need?

For the complete ashes of an adult, in most cases an urn of about 3 to 3.5 liters is needed. If you would choose to keep part of the ashes and scatter a part, you can choose from various smaller sizes (also in various models) that we can supply (depending on how much ashes you want to scatter). If you are not sure about the size you need, you can probably ask the crematorium what the amount of ashes is (content in litres).

  • 2. I want to keep some of the ashes in an urn, and scatter some. Is that possible?

Yes, it is permissible to keep some of the ashes in an urn and scatter the rest of the ashes. The ashes can also be divided over several smaller urns or mini urns. The Cylinder urn is also very suitable for scattering the ashes and then placing it in the house as a memorial. The cylinder urn is available in a version with and without tea light (available in 3 sizes).

  • 3. What is a “keepsake” / mini urn?

A “keepsake” (or mini urn) is a small sized urn to hold a small portion of the ashes. These are available in different shapes and sizes: as a vase urn, as a pyramid, urn bowl and so on

  • 4. Is it also possible to have an inscription painted on the urn? For example, a name and date of birth/death?

It is certainly also possible to have an inscription painted on the urn. Indeed the name and dates, but also, for example, a text from the funeral card, or from a saying or poem. This can be done on the front as well as on the back of the urn, and can also be made in various colours.

  • 5. I want to have my own idea executed on the urn. Is that also possible?

Yes, our workshop is specialized in carrying out special assignments entirely according to your wishes as a family. You can also first have a design sketch made (in consultation) without any obligation. We can also make your own model urn according to your wishes.

  • 6. How can I order an urn from Phoenix Urns?

On our website under "Order Urns" you can find the various sales addresses of crematoria, funeral homes and funeral directors who offer our "Phoenix Urns". If that is your preference, you can also order the urn from us through your own funeral director. If you have any questions about the possibilities, please do not hesitate to contact us via the contact form. If there is no sales address for our Phoenix Urns in your area, you can place your order directly with us. If you want to order an urn for your own pet, you can also do this directly with us. In that case, please contact us.

  • 7. What is the delivery time if I order an urn?

Delivery time varies, but in general you can expect a delivery time of approximately 4 to 6 weeks from order date. Because we have so many different decorations and models in our range, the urn is only made after it is ordered. An urn is sometimes available from stock for a small number of decorations.

  • 8. Are the “Phoenix Urns” also suitable for outside, in the garden or in a columbarium?

We can also supply almost all models in a frost-resistant version suitable for outdoor use. The frost-resistant version is turned by our potter from a special stoneware clay and fired at a much higher temperature (1250 degrees). This makes the urn completely watertight and therefore cannot freeze to pieces.

  • 9. How does filling the urn work?

The filling of the urn and the sealing of the lid or sealing plate usually takes place at the crematorium, the funeral home or the funeral director. The ashes may be released to be placed in the urn approximately 30 days after cremation. When you order an urn, you can probably immediately agree a date for it.

  • 10. What does it cost to have an urn made at Phoenix Urns?

The cost of an urn depends on the size and contents of the urn, and of course also on the decoration that is painted on it (is it a simple, an average, or a very elaborate decoration?). This all affects the price. In principle, we can make a beautiful urn for every budget. The cost price of a large urn suitable for the full ash destination (capacity over 3.5 litres) is on average between 500 and 650 euros. The cost of the smaller formats is between 100 and 500 euros (again depending on the decoration and size).
